Car paint is a wonderful thing. The different shades and saturations of paints, layers comprised of, effects such as metallic and pearlescent...there’s a lot of depth and factors when it comes to paint! But some manufacturers take it one step further. Whether it’s a relatively simple but well-executed metallic like the Murcielago’s Verde Ithaca, Rolls or Bentley and their 20-layer paints, TVR with their legendary pearlescents, good and relevant applications of special paint like on the Reventon which is like a matte dark grey with a bit of dark green and light metallic finish, or simply a suprisingly loud paint from a “sensible” manufacturer, like Carmellia Red on the concepts RX-8 and MX Crossport (now let’s see that on a production car Mazda!)

So show us great paints you know available as factory options! Lamborghini consistently offer incredible dynamic and unique paints; here are some offered on different variations of the Diablo over the years:

Lamborghini Thirty Metallic (SE30)

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Lavender metallic with silver flakes. Becomes silvery under lighting. Other manufacturers would balk at painting a supercar in lavender but not Lambo! It’s just amazing how different the paint looks under varied lighting.

Giallo Corona (GT)

This is hands down the greatest paint ever. It’s incredible for so many shades and so much depth in a paint whilst the paint still looks cohesive across the car’s surface. Even amongst the excellent other yellows Lambo make like Giallo Evron this is just another level.

Pearl Orange (GT)

Been trying to find the name for this online but haven’t been able to. The paint is similar to the Murcie’s Arancio Atlas but the latter doesn’t have much of the red spectrum in it - just look at the set after the 2nd pic! Unbelievable how many shades are in the paint, those pics taken in the same dealership same lighting!

Oro Elios (VT 6.0 SE)

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Sunrise - a more mature paint yet still Lambo’s - Chris Harris described it as subdued but as light hits it, all the stereotypes come alive :D A deep and beautiful paint

Marrone Eklipsis (VT 6.0 SE)

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Sunset - the other paint for the other half of the last Diablo variant produced, about 20 each were made. This is another subdued paint but under lighting has some lovely dark reds and browns and more that come out )

Paints are yet another great thing about cars - share your favs!

McLaren Hyperblurple, truly a fitting color for the radical P1 design

Kinja'd!!!

Also a fan of the seemingly “midnight purple”

One of the colors offered through the Aston Martin Q customization program is called Kermit Green. Kermit. Like the frog.

Best combination of color and name in the world.

I like this because I may at some point consider repainting GTO away from the Yellow Devil color.

That being said I will have perfect paint once it’s back from the shop so that will be a first for me.

Krypton Green works fantastically for the bug-like (and bug-sized) Lotus:

Kinja'd!!!

A friend just picked up a Techno Violet E36. It’s kind of subtle, but it looks great.

(not his)

Speaking of BMWs, it’s hard to say no to Laguna Seca Blue:

Kinja'd!!!

And finally, Stryker Red on the Viper. I’m not even into red cars (though I own one, oops!) but this is hard to beat:

Kinja'd!!!

(okay, that’s a custom color, kinda. But you can order it from the factory!)

TBH most metallic paint looks cheap and awful. The last time I saw anything approaching acceptable was when I read an article about this oval window VW living in Japan:

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

It has a “depth” that most metallic paint jobs lack. I don’t know how they did it, it looks a lot like early metallic jobs which consisted of a silver coat under a transparent color “glaze” (I want to say lacquer, but I’m not sure it technically was). No it’s not an oem job, but it does look a bit like the special paint applied to the one millionth VW back in the 50s:

Kinja'd!!!

Schwinn had a sort similar candy coppertone color in the 60s:

Kinja'd!!!

Photos don’t do this color justice though.

Verde Ithaca is definitely my fav Lamborghini color but all of these are absolutely stunning

Another color I love and there’s a lot of bias here is the black sapphire metallic paint on my e46 I feel like it has more depth with the blue undertones and whatnot that many of the other blacks

The answer is obviously pearlescent on certain TVRs.

Kinja'd!!!

Second would be BRG, which should be the ONLY colour a Jag or Aston should ever be in. Of course, some people don’t listen. I hate those people with a passion.

Kinja'd!!!

And third would be Polestar/Ultra blue, because who the fuck doesn’t love this colour? The same people who like black liqourice and the band Train, that’s who.

That’s what I thought, but 2nd pic on shows red hues in paint which I haven’t seen in the Murcie’s paint. Also nowhere can I see the GT’s paint directly being named in Italian apart from lambopaints or wherever that list of paint codes is...and it’s got a few mistakes

Slight correction, my friend. The color that you are referring to as “midnight purple” is officially called “Amethyst Black.”

Well, paints are always deceiving especially in photos. I assumed it was Arancio Atlas as it look very similar to a friend’s old Diablo VT but I’m not certain at all.

Black is still black though. It only looks special when it’s perfectly clean, and parked to more regular “blacks”. It’s a boring color people buy to blend in.

I feel like you’ve been duped a bit by Lamborghini. Sure, they have some great colors, but they always look more special on a Lamborghini. I vote that Nissan have made some awesome paints too:

Brickyard:

Kinja'd!!!

Interlagos Fire (similar but different)

Kinja'd!!!

The 300ZX and the Skylines all came with varying shades of purple that were varying levels of awesome. But so is Bayside Blue on the R34.

Lamborghini Brown (Marrone Eklipsis) with pale gold wheels is truly amazing.

Kinja'd!!!

Although, I do quite like their old green.

Kinja'd!!!

I have been on a bit of a cool green or blue-green kick lately, though.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

GM’s new Rainforest Green

Kinja'd!!!

This green looks custom^ I don’t think old paint can flop (bright to dark) quite like that.

Kinja'd!!!

medium teal pearl shimrin-House of Kolor.

Kinja'd!!!

Honda’s North Shore Blue Pearl is good. Not as much a fan of the car, but the color is great.

Kinja'd!!!

Jaguar Kyanite Blue

One of my all time favorites, though is Ecurie Ecosse blue.

Black is more limited but still some great finishes out there - Cadillac’s tri-coat black or something along those lines, and there are so many blacks which are just v dark grey, true blacks are much more rare!

Fair point. But they’re always second fiddle to TVR. Back when we had TVR anyway
